University of Alberta chooses Stellent
The University of Alberta will use content-management solution provider Stellent to handle it policies, procedures and infrastructure on the web, providing students and staff at the school with better access to information.
Stellent will provide the university’s website with a platform for creating, managing and updating policies and procedures.

Idetix lands Gulfstream for content management
Business aviation giant Gulfstream has selected Idetix Software Systems to provide it with a web content-management system.
The aerospace company will employ Idetix’s Revize software, an off-the-shelf product that also allows businesses the flexibility to offer web content management to other organisations as a hosted solution.

Companies join forces to offer ECM system
Enterprise-content-management vendor Interwoven has teamed up with information-capture vendor Kofax and systems integration specialist BCS Systems to offer an information-capture and collaborative document- management solution.
The solution will combine BCS’s Advanced Capture product with Interwoven’s WorkSite MP Server and Kofax’s Ascent Capture platform.

German bank selects Autonomy
Deutsche Bundesbank, the central bank of the Federal Republic of Germany, has selected infrastructure software provider Autonomy’s IDOL Server to power an advanced-retrieval system for 12,000 employees.
The system gives the bank instant access to information through a combination of automatic data aggregation, hyper linking and retrieval, while respecting existing security procedures and systems.

Plymouth improves online services
With an eye on meeting e-government compliance standards, Plymouth City Council has enhanced search capabilities on its website by using APR SmartLogik’s e-government application, SmartLogik Semaphore.
Hawk gets SOX solution
Hawk, a specialised component manufacturer for the industrial and aerospace sector, will use Hyland Software’s OnBase enterprise content-management (ECM) software to meet Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
The software is designed by certified public accountants with extensive experience in helping meet compliance requirements listed in Section 404 of the act.

Orange uses NetFM to link commuters
Using NetFM’s Journey2Share product, Orange employees will be able to create commuting plans and reduce travel costs by locating colleagues who travel a similar route via the company’s intranet.
The technology will facilitate commuting for 13,000 Orange employees at over 100 sites. It uses a dynamic database to match potential journey sharers and cross-reference user locations and user profiles.
A similar venture in West Berkshire has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by two tonnes per month and alleviated traffic congestion and parking constraints.

Children’s NGO selects Mediasurface
International children’s organisation Plan has chosen UK content-management provider Mediasurface to centralise content management on its global websites.
Plan will use Mediasurface’s Morello application to provide a main web-management platform, avoiding disparate web presences. The solution will also provide a main source for stories and images to be used by national branches of Plan.

Fortune smiles as South Eastern Trains redesigns
South Eastern Trains will have a new intranet and website that meet accessibility guidelines by autumn 2004 after choosing web developer Fortune Cookie to redesign both sites.
Fortune Cookie will follow Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) guidelines to ensure the new website is accessible as possible. The company will use Microsoft Sharepoint to deliver an intranet optimised for South Eastern’s technical environment. Justin Cooke, managing director of Fortune Cookie, noted accessibility would also be addressed in the new intranet.
“Working within the parameters of Sharepoint, we will design the intranet to be as accessible as possible and apply RNIB accessibility guidelines as appropriate,” he said.

Australian university picks Interwoven
The University of Newcastle in Australia has selected Interwoven’s TeamSite content-management software to drive its internal and public information websites.
The project to streamline the sites within one system began last March, initially focussing on the faculty of Science and IT and the school’s corporate web pages.

Airbus to use radio identification
Airbus has reached a deal with LogicaCMG that will see the aircraft manufacturer use radio frequency identification chips to wirelessly track and trace replacement materials.
The collaboration will allow for faster inventory management, improved parts identification and the ability to record specific data to parts, while cutting administrative costs and improving security. LogicaCMG says the Kortenburg Master-ID chip is able to cope with the extreme temperature differences aircraft experience.
