IBM software approved by UK standard
IBM has become the first major software vendor to be officially approved by the UK government’s National Archives (TNA) standard for electronic record-keeping systems.
IBM completed extensive evaluation testing and successfully demonstrated the role-based security and permissions required by the National Archives, with its DB2 Records Manager solution.
Other products, including DB2 Content Manager, were also included in the test configuration.

Peregrine releases BI portal
IT asset and service-management solutions provider Peregrine Systems has announced the availability of its latest business-intelligence (BI) tool for advanced analytics.
BI Portal version 5.2 can be used to analyse performance in a variety of areas including asset management, software-licence compliance and configuration management. It also allows users to drill-down reports or graphs to identify causal relationships and trends.

AIIM announces XML standards initiative
Industry association AIIM has drafted a new standard that uses extended mark-up language (XML) tags to facilitate the exchange of information managed by document-management technologies. This includes any associated metadata that defines or describes the information to be shared.
The draft focuses specifically on document- image files and may result in the development of an international standard within ISO TC 171/SC2/WG2.

FileNet to acquire Yaletown Technology
FileNet could soon strengthen its position in the compliance market, having entered into an agreement to acquire content-compliance software vendor Yaletown Technology Group.
As a result of the transaction, which is expected to close in early October 2005, FileNet will complement its existing records-management product with the addition of Yaletown’s Record Crawler solution.
The acquisition should also allow FileNet to enhance its e-mail management capabilities.

FAST boosts US government web portal
The US General Services Administration (GSA) has selected technology from Fast Search and Transfer (FAST) to power search functionality on the official US government web portal, FirstGov.gov.
FAST’s enterprise-search platform has been integrated with the portal’s content-management system to improve storage and retrieval methods for published documents.
