Vamosa and IBM join forces

Vamosa has announced a global partnership with IBM following its successful collaboration with the computer giant during a project at Australia’s Department of Health and Ageing last year.
Since the Australian venture, Vamosa has been forging links across the IBM organisation worldwide, with the main strands of the relationship being established in the services and software areas.
In services, Vamosa has been working with regional consulting teams to develop a joint proposition based around its ability to rapidly enable full use of the IBM Workplace Web Content Manager by taking content and transforming it into business ready knowledge, which can be loaded directly into the IBM solution.

Autonomy to power BUPA’s KM initiative

International health and care company, BUPA, has selected Autonomy to power a knowledge management project on its intranet and customer-facing website. The integration of Autonomy’s solutions will allow users to collate, manage and deliver information from numerous knowledge sources and repositories.
The move is part of a drive to provide customers and employees with the most up to date and accurate information on a wide range of issues, from hospitals and medical information, to childcare and travel insurance.

Ovid unveils next-generation search tool

Ovid has released a federated search solution that provides a single point of access and authentication, allowing users to conduct one-step searches across numerous information sources. Unified results can then be further edited and ranked, or exported in research work tools.
SearchSolver integrates disparate silos of information and presents results using a simple web-based format. It can be used to search across numerous sources of information, including electronic journals, bibliographic databases and internet portals.
The tool is specifically designed for online environments and incorporates Autonomy’s knowledge of bibliographic and full text database structure.

Ektron releases enhanced CMS

Ektron has unveiled the latest version of its CMS400.NET solution, which promises to deliver better support for developers who need to build websites and applications within short timescales. The product also features improved content and document-management functionality.
The additions to version 5.0 include enhanced search capabilities, calendar functions and integration with Macromedia Dreamweaver. The product also ships with the vendor’s DMS400 solution, as an add-on component.

Enterprise data management council opens for business

Industry vendors and financial institutions have teamed up to support enterprise data management (EDM) as an industry initiative, with the launch of the EDM Council.
Formed by more than 20 c-level executives, the council was designed to create, enhance and sustain awareness of EDM as an urgent priority within the financial services industry. IBM, SunGard and GoldenSource are the initiative’s founding sponsors.
The council will promote EDM as a solution to help companies meet the data management challenges they face, while providing assistance on EDM and related issues to its members.

Gartner places Oracle in magic quadrant

Oracle Portal 10g, a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware, has been positioned in the Leaders Quadrant in the 2005 Gartner Horizontal Portal Products Magic Quadrant.
According to Gartner, the enterprise portal has become the most desired user interface in Global 2000 enterprises and is ranked as one of the top 10 areas of technology focus by CIOs.

E-mail security market poised for growth

The e-mail security market is poised for strong growth and could be worth £3.7bn by 2009, according to a recent survey.
The research, conducted by In-Stat, found that reliability is the most critical factor influencing purchasing decisions, with viruses and spam continuing to top the list of e-mail security concerns within the enterprise.
Companies are mainly looking for solutions that combine multiple e-mail security and management functions, and 60 per cent of the decision-makers canvassed plan to invest in e-mail security products within the next two years.
Although appliances look set to overtake software as the first-choice delivery model for such solutions, more than 30 per cent of respondents have not decided whether to buy software, an appliance or a hosted service.

Plumtree and Kapow double-up on portal applications

Kapow Technologies has announced a technology agreement with Plumtree Software, a collaboration that will see Kapow’s RoboSuite web-integration platform being used to simplify portlet creation and the publishing of legacy applications into the Plumtree corporate portal.
The move represents a drive to accelerate deployment and provide a faster return on investment for Plumtree’s customers by providing the ability to access and re-use legacy applications and content, and integrate these within a portal environment.

Mediasurface launches content management suite

Mediasurface has launched version 5.2 of its content management suite, which includes enhancements to the Morello solution, as well as a host of new features to allow users more flexibility and control when building their websites.
Additional features include enhanced architectural support, improved performance through better caching and indexing, various user interface improvements and more advanced upload features.
The product is available as a free upgrade to existing Morello customers.
